RESOLUTION - Honoring artists involved with weaving nets art installation commemorating Kansas City hosting six FIFA World Cup 2026 matches.

WHEREAS, Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center is the proud heart of Kansas City's Mexican and Hispanic community, where culture, tradition, and creativity shine through murals, music, lowriders, dance, and celebrations that uplift the spirit of our city; and
WHEREAS, the murals of Southwest Boulevard and under I-35 on West 17th Street stand as vibrant gateways, telling stories of resilience, history, and pride while welcoming visitors to the Westside community; and
WHEREAS, events such as Mujer, Chicano, and Dia de los Muertos and the Mattie Rhodes Art Center continue to cultivate artistic expression, providing opportunities for youth and families to engage in art that reflects their lived experiences; and
WHEREAS, Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center has partnered with the Consulate of Mexico to join Betsabe? Romero, an internationally renowned Mexican artist for Tejiendo Redes (Weaving Nets); and
WHEREAS, local artists Liz Gonzalez, Tyson Johnson, Dani Coronado, Monica Pena, Penny Selle, Sarah Hyde, Tessa Pulido, Sue Moreno, Mauricio Zuniga, Jessica Manco, Astrid Mier y Ter?n, Erika Noguera, Yaretzy Serna, Oscar Soberanes, Carime Barroso, and Christina Loya under the direction of Jenny Mendez, Cultural Arts Director for Mattie Rhodes Cultural Center, have joined Romero in the creation of a metaphorical net, binding together diverse voices and fostering a sense of unity among participants. The public is invited to experience this installation through July 30 on the south lawn of the Kansas City Convention Center; and
