Observing November 11, 2021, as Veterans Day and honoring those who served in the United States Armed Forces Nationwide.

WHEREAS, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 1918, World War I came to an end and since then, November 11th has been a national holiday with the purpose of reflecting on the sacrifice made by those in the armed forces, past and present; and

WHEREAS, Veteran's Day began as a day to honor, respect and pay tribute to the heroes who died in service for our country. Today, we unite together in support for those who have fallen, those who have served and our currently serving officers. We celebrate our soldiers for their patriotism, the love of our country and the willingness to serve and sacrifice to protect our rights and freedom; and

WHEREAS, Kansas City is a Hidden Hero's city which means the City of Kansas City promised to help veterans directly, helping military caregivers in the community, and provide a safe place for veterans of the United States. Kansas City is also the home of Caregivers on the Homefront, an organization helping veterans in powerful ways by providing in-person and online support groups, educational workshops, mental health, and wellness restorative weekends, all for veteran caregivers across the city and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Kansas City is proudly the home to the National WWI Museum and Memorial, an over 95-year-old monument erected for the veterans of this great nation, upholding a mission that is, 'dedicated to remembering, interpreting and understanding the Great War and its enduring impact on the global community; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby display their gratitude to Veterans in Kansas City, Missouri and recognize the sacrifice of hidden caregivers and the families of veterans within our community this Veterans Day;...
