Honoring and acknowledging Mr. David Mecklenburg for his years of dedicated service to the City of Kansas City.

WHEREAS, Mr. David Mecklenburg has served as a Commissioner for the Kansas City Parks & Recreation Board from 2011-2021. Commissioner Mecklenburg was appointed by Mayor Sly James and continued for another term under Mayor Quinton Lucas; and

WHEREAS, Mr. David Mecklenburg brought his passion and commitment to the Parks Board to promote connectivity, accessibility, activities and beautification to all the city parks, community centers, fountains and trails; and

WHEREAS, Mr. David Mecklenburg is a veteran of the United States Army. The Army motto "This We'll Defend" is the very approach that Mr. Mecklenburg has used while serving on the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Board. His work on some difficult situations and projects such as linear parks, the unified trail plan, budget items, contracts and park hours, has not deterred him from bringing real solutions to the Board; and

WHEREAS, Mr. David Mecklenburg earned his bachelor's degree from Central Methodist College. He has been in the insurance industry since 1971 and is employed by CEK Insurance as an Insurance Producer since March 1995. During his time on the Parks Board he was a Director for the Kansas City Museum Foundation. He has been a past chair for the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce, Clay County EDC Quality of Life Committee, a past member of the Kansas City Weather Community Panel, a current member of the Clay County Parks Board and currently serves as chair for Northland Neighborhoods, Inc; and

WHEREAS, Mr. David Mecklenburg enjoys camping, canoeing, golfing and traveling with his family and exploring the outdoors with his wife Susan, and his grandchildren Allie and Andrew.
