RESOLUTION - Condemning recent acts of vandalism targeting the LGBTQ+ community in Kansas City and reaffirming the City’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and creating a safe and welcoming environment for all citizens, workers, and visitors.

WHEREAS, multiple acts of vandalism intended to create an atmosphere of intimidation and intolerance have been committed in Kansas City with high visibility against the LGBTQ+ community, including recent defacement of Kansas City Streetcar stops; and

 

WHEREAS, there is unfortunately potential for further acts of vandalism or intimidation to occur in the future; and

 

WHEREAS, such acts of intimidation and hate have the potential to do great harm to the mental or physical wellbeing of LGBTQ+ residents, workers, and visitors; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City shall continue to publicly and vocally promote the ideals of inclusion, diversity, and acceptance in all meaningful ways available to the City Council; and

 

WHEREAS, the City resolves to maintain adequate resources for employees, residents, and visitors to report, recover, and help heal from such attacks; NOW, THEREFORE

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the City condemns recent acts of vandalism targeting the LGBTQ+ community in Kansas City and reaffirms its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and creating a safe and welcoming city for all residents, commuters, city employees and visitors.
