Declaring September 20, 2022, as National Voter Registration Day in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday that celebrates our democracy and the citizens who make it strong. Thousands of volunteers from hundreds of organizations, including nonprofits, libraries, schools, businesses, election officials and more, come together to help people register to vote; and

 

WHEREAS, in Kansas City, the League of Women Voters is a partner to this national effort. In Jackson, Clay and Platte counties, the League helps register voters, offers information on major public policy issues, and holds forums for local offices. We believe every eligible American voter should have the information they need to exercise their right to be heard at the ballot box; and

 

WHEREAS, since its inception in 2012, 4.7 million Americans have registered to vote on National Voter Registration Day. These new voters have come from all 50 states. National Voter Registration Day is a day of civic unity. It’s an opportunity to set aside differences, enjoy the rights and opportunities we all share as Americans, and celebrate our democracy; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare September 20, 2022, as National Voter Registration Day in Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the League of Women Voters with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for their dedication and service in making every American aware of what it means to celebrate our democracy.
