Recognizing the Greater Kansas City National Hispanic Heritage Committee for their work organizing the annual Fiesta Hispana and recognizing the celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month in Kansas City.

WHEREAS, the Greater Kansas City National Hispanic Heritage Committee's Fiesta Hispana kicks off National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place September 15 through October 15, celebrating diverse Hispanic cultures, and paying tribute to Americans from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America who have contributed greatly to our society; and
WHEREAS, approximately ten percent of Kansas City residents and about twenty percent of Americans are Hispanic and represent the fastest growing ethnic segment of society, contributing more than $1.5 trillion to our nation's economy; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Kansas City National Hispanic Heritage Committee has organized Fiesta Hispana for the past 41 years with a board of 11 volunteers, bringing in thousands of attendees each year; and
WHEREAS, Fiesta Hispana presents more than 75 booths to educate, exhibit art, and provide resources to the community, including employment opportunities and health services; and
WHEREAS, celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month reaffirms that diversity is one of our greatest strengths and recognizes the value and impact Hispanic people have had on our community; NOW, THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their thanks and appreciation to the Greater Kansas City National Heritage Committee for 41 years of service in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Greater Kansas City National Heritage Committee ...
