RESOLUTION - Declaring May 2023, as Older Americans Month in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri includes a growing number of older Americans who contribute their time, wisdom, and experience to our community; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri benefits when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds have the opportunity to participate and live independently; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri recognizes our need to create a community that offers the services and support to older adults who may need to make choices about how they age; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri can work to build an even better community for our older residents by:
• Not limiting our thinking about aging,
• Exploring and combating stereotypes and emphasizing the many positive aspects of aging,
• Inspiring older adults to push past traditional boundaries, and
• Embracing our community’s diversity;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare May 2023, as Older Americans Month in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Tina Uridge, Executive Director, Clay County Senior Services, Melody Elston, MSW, Interim Director, Aging & Adult Services, Mid-America Regional Council and Debra L. Gwin, Executive Director, Platte County Senior Fund, with the Mayor and Council urging every resident to recognize the contributions of our older citizens, helping to create an inclusive society, and joining efforts to support older Americans’ choices about how they age in their communities.
