RESOLUTION - Congratulating the Kansas City (MO) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. on its Centennial Anniversary on March 23, 2023.

WHEREAS, 10 men had a vision that became a reality on January 5, 1911, on the campus of Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana, as a college fraternity that accepted every male regardless of their color, religion, or national origin; and
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi exhorts its members to stretch themselves in all directions while holding fast to the fundamental purpose of Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor; and
WHEREAS, on March 23, 1923, 25 men had a vision that became a reality with the chartering of the Kansas City (MO) Alumni Chapter, with the mission of living up to the vision of the Founders and striving to achieve a closer and greater bond of brotherhood, while at the same time providing guidance and mature judgment for the collegiate members of the fraternity; and
WHEREAS, the Kansas City (MO) Alumni Chapter counts Kansas City icons such as Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Founder Byron K. Armstrong, Dr. Joseph Edgar Dibble, Rev. D.A. Holmes, Atty. L. Amasa Knox, the Hon. Carl R. Johnson, the 16th Laurel Wreath recipient Percy H. Lee, the Hon. Lewis W. Clymer, Ollie Gates, and Hon. Fernando J. Gaitan, Jr. in the history of its membership; and
WHEREAS, the various community service activities sponsored by the chapter include the Archie L. Langston Memorial Easter Egg Hunt, the Swope Parkway Community Clean-up, the Holiday Gift Basket drive, and the Guide Right Program; and
WHEREAS, the Kansas City (MO) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is celebrating its Centennial Anniversary in 2023; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the Kansas City (MO) Alumni Chapter on its Centennial Anniversary on March 23, 2023; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Grand Polemarch Reuben A. Shelton, III, Esq. with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the outstanding services being provided the community by the Kansas City (MO) Alumni Chapter.
