RESOLUTION - Recognizing National Foster Care Month and the vital services provided by Foster Adopt Connect, Jackson County CASA, and foster parents and volunteers in the Kansas City area.

WHEREAS, May is National Foster Care Month, an initiative of the Children's Bureau to acknowledge foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, child welfare professionals, and other members of the community who help over 391,000 children and youth nationwide in foster care find permanent homes and connections; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1998, Foster Adopt Connect works to end the generational cycle of abuse and neglect by providing foster and adoptive children a stable, loving and nurturing family environment to include programs services where gaps in available services have been identified. FAC operates in twelve locations in Kansas and Missouri to positively impact over 9,000 lives; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1983, Jackson County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA's) mission is to serve as a child's voice for kids ages birth to 21 under the court's jurisdiction. In 2022, 373 CASA volunteers served 1,126 children with the goal of ensuring they were released from court jurisdiction into safe and permanent homes, received appropriate services to reduce the effects of trauma, and community support to thrive after system involvement; and
WHEREAS, foster families and volunteers work diligently to provide care and services to encourage bright, happy futures for the children they come in contact with; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the dedicated efforts of Foster Adopt Connect, Jackson County CASA, their volunteers, and the foster parents of Kansas City; and
