RESOLUTION - Congratulating Dr. Jennifer Collier on securing her new role of Superintendent of Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS).

WHEREAS, after graduating from the University of Kansas, Dr. Collier decided to become a substitute teacher at KCPS before pursuing her dream of becoming a professional singer but lucky for us, she was bit by the teaching bug!; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Collier channeled her love for singing and vocal music, and she became a High School Music Teacher at Northeast High School; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Collier proved her ability to lead and ascended to Vice Principal at Northeast Middle School; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Collier continued to show and prove as she became the Principal at Border Star Montessori School; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Collier again was rewarded for her professionalism by being promoted to Chief Human Resources Officer for KCPS; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Collier continued to show and prove that she was an integral part of the leadership, growth and fabric of KCPS and was again promoted to Deputy Superintendent -Chief of Staff; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Collier is now the 1st female who is also African American to serve as permanent Superintendent of Kansas City Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Colliers students and the entire community alike have the privilege of seeing where the willingness to lead, a knack for identifying and deploying transferable skills, the ability to be affective and the tenacity to stay the course can take them; and

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Dr. Jennifer Collier on her commitment to the Kansas City Public Schools, to education, to our children and families and to the entire Kansas City community by sharing her talents, time and treasures; and
