RESOLUTION - Recognizing Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) for 85 years in Kansas City.

WHEREAS, in 1928, the first group hospitalization plan, known as Group Hospital Services, began operating in Kansas City and was later named Blue Cross of Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, in 1950, non-group enrollment was introduced with the City of Kansas City being the first Plan in Jackson County to offer this type of enrollment; and

WHEREAS, in 1965, with the growing need to provide healthcare to senior citizens, Blue KC introduced a Medicare program-which is still offered today; and

WHEREAS, in 2003, Blue KC purchased the building at 2301 Main Street for its headquarters, to help drive down administrative costs and demonstrate Blue KC's long-standing commitment to Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, in 2022, Blue KC reaffirmed its commitment to KCMO, by announcing a signed contract to lease a new office building at 1400 Baltimore Avenue for its future headquarters; and

WHEREAS, in 2023, Blue KC was ranked #1 in Member Satisfaction among Commercial Health Plans in the Heartland Region, based on the results of the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Commercial Member Health Plan Study(tm). Blue KC's score highlights its continued focus on prioritizing members; and

WHEREAS, more locals choose Blue KC than any other health insurance company and these one million individuals have something in common - they love the choices, affordability, innovative programs, and award-winning service that go hand-in-hand with being a Blue KC member - that's the Benefit of Blue; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their thanks and appreciation to Blue KC for being Kansas City's trusted health and well-being partner for twenty years, and a valuable local employer, for over 85 years; and
