RESOLUTION - Making today, March 7, 2024, Terry Riley Day: A Servant Leader with a Heart for the City.

WHEREAS, Terry M. Riley is a Kanas City native, graduate of Southeast High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, with an unmatched tenacity and drive Terry Riley for over three decades has exhibited a divine gift of organizing and strategizing to champion moments that turn into movements, like normalizing diversity, challenging outdated methods, and serving at some of the highest levels in local, state, and national platforms; and

WHEREAS, Terry Riley during his tenure as a City Councilperson, sponsored major legislation supporting education, specifically, promoting STEM disciplines, funding career and technical education training, increased wages for teachers and support staff, created literacy programs that bear his name (Riley's Readers), and epic annual back-to-school supply giveaways, and lead the charge to reduce health disparities and access inequities in the development of an $18 million health and fitness facility in the 5th district; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Terry Riley are abundant and full of merit like Missouri Stat Co-Chair, National League of Cities-National Black Caucus President, Missouri State Assembly, Representative-43rd Legislative District, Kansas City School Board Member, Minority Health Commission, Co-Chair, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and currently a Client Relationship Executive at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas City and many more; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the work, service, and matchless dedication of the Terry M. Riley on this day, March 7, 2024; and
