RESOLUTION - Honoring Independence Police Officer Cody Allen.

WHEREAS, all police officers in Kansas City and its surrounding communities are dedicated to keeping our communities safe; and

 

WHEREAS, Independence Police Department Officer Cody Allen was dedicated to keeping the Independence community safe, putting others before himself and helping others at every opportunity; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Allen was a six-year veteran of the Independence Police Department, having previously served with the Grandview Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Allen was injured in the line of duty on February 29, 2024, while assisting Jackson County Circuit Court Process Server Drexel Mack in serving an eviction notice when they and other officers came under gunfire; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Allen succumbed to his injuries while attempting to protect and save others; and  

 

WHEREAS, Officer Allen served his community with honor, receiving several awards and commendations throughout his career, and was known for his smile and strong leadership; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Allen’s passing is a loss for his family, friends, fellow officers and first responders throughout the region, and the entire Independence community for which he served so honorably, NOW, THEREFORE

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the life and service of Officer Cody Allen; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Officer Cody Allen’s family in recognition of his dedication and service to the Independence Police Department.
