WHEREAS, safety and security of residents, business owners and visitors is important for continued progress and quality of life in the city; and

WHEREAS, increased security and visibility of officers and deputies in certain areas and districts will benefit residents, local businesses, and visitors; and

WHEREAS, the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force, comprised of City staff from various City departments, was established to create proactive strategies, identify areas of highest need, and recommend budget expenditures in order to prioritize the delivery of city services in certain areas utilizing publicly available data provided by the Kansas City Police Department and participating City Departments; and

WHEREAS, the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force shall make recommendations to the City Manager regarding areas where the use of off-duty officers and deputies is warranted; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager is authorized to contract with various districts and agencies to provide funding towards the hiring of off-duty officers and deputies based upon the recommendations of the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force; and

WHEREAS, the scope of these agreements will allow for the use of off-duty officers and deputies, including from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office; NOW, THEREFORE,
