RESOLUTION - Expressing the City Council's support for the City's grant application for the Bridge Investment Program (BIP) Project in the amount of $39,934,854.00, which would require local matching funds up to the amount of $9,983,714.00, and directing the City Manager to submit the application for the Bridge Investment Program.

WHEREAS, Public Works has identified nine (9) top priority bridges that are structurally deficient and/or functionally obsolete which require rehabilitation or reconstruction to preserve mobility and accessibility. These bridges are:

1. 112th Street over Fishing River

2. Pleasant Valley Road over Big Shoal Creek

3. 12th Street over Big Blue River

4. Belleview Avenue over Brush Creek

5. Roanoke Parkway over Brush Creek

6. Benton Boulevard over Brush Creek

7. Elmwood Avenue over Brush Creek

8. Gregory Boulevard over Big Blue River

9. Hillcrest Road over Small Creek; and

WHEREAS, the US Department of Transportation provides funding for bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects through the BIP grant with a 80% federal and 20% local match requirement; and

WHEREAS, the anticipated cost of rehabilitating/replacing these nine bridges is estimated at $49,918,568.00; and

WHEREAS, local matching funds are required up to the amount of $9,983,714.00 based on the cost estimates; and

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City has already appropriated a total of $15,879,339.00 in GO Bond funds towards bridges on this priority list; and

WHEREAS, this project will improve reliability in our infrastructure and increase mobility by adding pedestrian and cycling modes of transportation to bridges; NOW, THEREFORE,
