Accepting and approving a $607,200.00 grant award amendment from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to assist with education, surveillance, referrals to programs and resources in an effort to mitigate COVID-19 and help control risk factors for severe disease; estimating and appropriating $607,200.00 in the Governmental Grants Fund; and recognizing this ordinance as having an accelerated effective date

WHEREAS, in recent years, research has consistently demonstrated that individuals with pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, or obesity face a heightened risk of experiencing severe complications upon contracting the COVID virus that may necessitate hospitalization or even lead to death; and

WHEREAS, there is growing concern about the development of long-term symptoms known as long COVID among those who have recovered from the acute phase of the illness; and

WHEREAS, it is widely recognized that enhancing awareness about these vulnerabilities and implementing preventive measures such as vaccination and minimizing exposure can significantly improve the likelihood of achieving favorable health outcomes; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That a grant award amendment in the amount of $607,200.00 between the City of Kansas City, Missouri, acting through its Director of Health, and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, acting through its Director of Administration, whereby the State will provide funding to assist with education, surveillance, referrals to programs and resources in an effort to mitigate COVID-19 and help control risk factors for severe disease within Kansas City, Missouri for the period beginning February 1, 2024 through January 31, 2025, for a total award amount not to exceed $1,821,600.00, is hereby accepted and approved...
