RESOLUTION - Honoring the accomplishments of the Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts of Kansas City Public Schools on UN Spanish Language Day, April 23, 2024.

WHEREAS, on UN Spanish Language Day, celebrated annually on April 23rd, the world recognizes the importance and diversity of the Spanish language, its complex history and relationship with indigenous languages, and its cultural significance in global communication and cooperation; and

WHEREAS, Kansas City Public Schools is dedicated to fostering and continuing to invest in access to bilingualism, biliteracy, and multicultural understanding among all of its students; and

WHEREAS, in their fourth year, the Paseo Dual Language students have embarked on a unique educational journey, pursuing a bilingual pathway alongside their chosen art major, thus enriching their academic and cultural experiences for themselves and their community; and

WHEREAS, Paseo Dual Language students have achieved a remarkable milestone by last year having become the youngest students in the state to receive dual credit with the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), showcasing their dedication and advanced academic prowess; and

WHEREAS, the Paseo Dual Language Program has demonstrated its commitment to supporting English Language Learners (ELL) and multilingual learners by having doubled the rate at which 7th and 8th grade Dual Language ELL students exited their ELL monitoring status compared to their non-Dual Language peers last year; and

WHEREAS, the Paseo Dual Language Program continues to grow every year with middle school Paseo Dual Language students constituting over a quarter of each of their grades, indicating growing community interest and the increasing demand for the liberating and restorative benefits of multilingual education within our diverse communities; NOW, THEREFORE,
