Observing Friday, November 11, 2022, as Veterans Day and honoring those who served in the United States Armed Forces Nationwide.

WHEREAS, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 1918, World War I came to an end and since then, November 11th has been a national holiday with the purpose of reflecting on the sacrifice made by those who have served in the armed forces, past and present; and
WHEREAS, Veterans Day began as a day to honor, respect and pay tribute to the heroes who died in service to our country. On this day, we honor those who have lost their lives fighting for our country, those who have already served, along with those currently serving. We celebrate the lives of our soldiers, show respect towards the sacrifices they have made, disparities they faced, and the patriotism they bled; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City is a Hidden Hero’s city which ensures the City of Kansas City will help veterans directly, helping military caregivers in the community, and provide a safe place for veterans of the United States. Kansas City is also the home of Caregivers on the Homefront, an organization that works to provide for families who are caring for both past and present troops. Caregivers for the Homefront wants to show the importance of our military and acknowledge the “wounds of wars” that our veterans face; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City is proudly the home to the National WWI Museum and Memorial, an over 95-year-old monument erected for the veterans of this great nation, upholding a mission that is, ‘dedicated to remembering, interpreting, and understanding the Great War and its enduring impact on the global community; and
WHEREAS, the Veterans Community Project, an organization founded in Kansas City works to provide better living for the men and women who have served. They provide housing for veterans that lack financial stability and also provide an outreach center to help veterans navigate life after their contracts are up. NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby display their gratitude to Veterans in Kansas City, Missouri and recognize the sacrifice of hidden caregivers and the families of veterans within our community this Veterans Day; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof is presented to Matthew Naylor of the National World War I Museum and Memorial and Shawn Moore, founder of Caregivers on the Homefront in Kansas City, Brooke Brown on behalf of the VFW Foundation with the Mayor and Council encouraging all citizens of Kansas City to honor the nation’s veterans.
