RESOLUTION NO. 220456

title

Recognizing May 16-20, 2022. as Infrastructure Week in the City of Kansas City and acknowledging the importance of infrastructure investments across the nation.

body

WHEREAS, the week of May 16 through 20 is observed as Infrastructure Week across the nation as an opportunity for national and local leaders to elevate infrastructure as a critical issue; and

WHEREAS, all Americans broadly rely on many types of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and other transportation networks, dependable water systems, infrastructure to combat extreme weather events, access to broadband, and overall connectivity to the economy; and

WHEREAS, the recently passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law or BIL, provides historic funding of $1.2 trillion dollars to invest in America’s crumbling infrastructure; and

WHEREAS many of the BIL investments will flow to cities, towns, and villages, providing a unique opportunity to address individual community-focused infrastructure improvements and build sustainable and resilient infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, in the City of Kansas City this funding will enable infrastructure improvement projects that enhance the local and regional economy, resident quality of life, and the safety of the community; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare the week of May 16-20, 2022, as National Infrastructure Week and encourage residents to join in recognizing the special importance of the infrastructure needs and investment in the community through appropriate commemorations; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Kansas City formally thanks members of Congress and federal leadership for addressing the critical infrastructure funding needs across the nation by passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Michael Shaw, Director of Public Works.
