Recognizing Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Greater Kansas City during National Homeownership Month in celebration of their 40th anniversary.

Whereas, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is one of our country's oldest and largest community development organizations, making their first investment in the Kansas City region in 1981; and

 

Whereas, LISC has as its mission to work with residents and partners to forge resilient and inclusive communities of opportunity across America - great places to live, work, visit, do business and raise families; and

 

Whereas, since 1981, LISC Greater Kansas City has invested $194 million in affordable housing and economic development projects across our region, leveraging another $674 million, helping to create 5,350 affordable homes and apartments; and

 

WHEREAS, LISC Greater Kansas City’s strategic plan focuses on affordable housing, economic development, and financial stability with a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice by targeting racial health, wealth, and opportunity gaps; and

 

WHEREAS, LISC Greater Kansas City has partnered with the City of Kansas City and community development stakeholders to advance policies that increase access to homeownership and affordable housing for residents; and

 

WHEREAS, June has been recognized as National Homeownership Month; and

 

Whereas, LISC Greater Kansas City will be celebrating their 40th Anniversary at their annual community gathering, Thrive, on October 13, 2022, at the Urban Youth Academy in the Historic 18th & Vine District; Now, therefore,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize LISC Greater Kansas City during National Homeownership Month for their impact to our community over the past 40 years and declare October 13, 2022, as “LISC Greater Kansas City” Day in Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Geoff Jolley and LISC Greater Kansas City Team with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the dedication and hard work to help all residents become homeowners.
