Acknowledging and congratulating the Kansas City Public Works Department for receiving re-accreditation from the American Public Works Association.

WHEREAS, the American Public Works Association (APWA) Accreditation Program recognizes agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the public works industry, as set forth in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City Public Works received its first APWA Accreditation in March 2018, in North America there are 23,100 municipalities. Of these municipalities only 165 are accredited departments by APWA

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City’s Public Works Department’s Solid Waste Division and  Tow Services are being accredited for the first time; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Public Works Department received two Model Practice designations by APWA. It is rare for a department to receive more than one Model Practice designation. APWA will use Kansas City’s Public Works Department’s practices in these areas as an example for departments across North America as they shape their policies and procedures; and

 

WHEREAS, the Public Works Department received a Model Practice designation for their Planning and Development and Infrastructure Asset Management Inventory; and

 

WHEREAS, the Public Works Department received a Model Practice designation for Bridges and Inventory - The City’s Street and Traffic Operations Manual is described by APWA as well-constructed thorough manual; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

                     BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

                     That the Mayor and Council hereby commend and congratulate the employees of the Public Works Department for their commitment to excellence in service to our community and are appreciative of Public Works endeavors and salute their most recent recognition of the American Public Works Association (APWA) Accreditation; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Public Works Director Michael Shaw in token of the Mayor and Council’s respect and high regard for the contribution of the City’s Public Works employees to the continued success of Kansas City.
